Happy halloween

This was my first halloween as a home owner and I was prepared. I decorated, bought candy, put on orange, and turned on my porch light to wait for trick- or- treaters. I got one family.  So here is the candy that me and Jane will be eating for the next month. Happy halloween!

Snotty people annoy me

This is the snotty rich woman who thinks she owns the world... or at least the diner. It is Sunday morning at a diner so of course there were no parking places. There is a gravel lot you can park in that has 1 entrance to the regular parking lot. As I was parking in that gravel lot I watched this lady in the Jag park in the driveway to the lot. She was going to leave her car there too! As she was going into the restaurant luckily someone stopped her and told her she was trapping all of the other cars in. She knew that! Then rather then just pulling her car up the rest of the driveway into the gravel lot she insisted on waiting for a regular spot. Here is her car. I hope she is happy because this is why other Cherry Hill-ians get a bad rep.

Fortunes

Here are the fortunes I got in my Chinese food today. They are much better than the ones from my old chinese restaurant.

Enough said

Wednesday October 26 2011
My professor said this in class yesterday. It summarizes my year so far.

Sitting pretty

Tuesday October 25 2011
I sat on my butt all day today for meetings then class. In between them I worked in 15 minutes or so sitting by the lake. It was the highlight of my day because for that sitting session I had sunlight and pretty scenery.

For my dad

This post is dedicated to my dad because he gets upset when I miss a day. This is a picture of the view from my bed when I realized I forgot to take a picture today.

Shoprite

This is why I hate grocery shopping on the weekends. You have to park a million miles away. And all of the people parked between me and the store also seem to think their time and needs once inside the store are more important than mine. Get out of my way, people.

My day in a cocoa covered nut shell

I had a wonderful relaxing Saturday. It was one of those days where I didn't really do anything but I wasn't home.
I started my day with a football game and then breakfast with the team. At breakfast, AJ said the funniest thing. When a friend mentioned that he was taking a girl on a date because she needed "arm candy" AJ replied with "what kind of candy? The black licorice kind that no one really likes?" It was awesome. Im not that witty so I have to remember that one.
Then I spent the afternoon hanging out with my parents. My mom made these delicious cocoa covered almonds and my dad changed my oil. Meanwhile, we were talking about a friend from long ago. Me and my mom looked him up on facebook and found him! I no longer have a facebook account (and up until today I haven't missed it) but I wish I did so that I can chat with my bff from when I was 5. I wonder what he is up to and I think it would be interesting to get to know him as an adult. I remember him really clearly. I wonder if he remembers me. Maybe someday if I turn my facebook back on I can friend him.

My favorites

Some of my favorite students are from my first class. They are juniors now and I still miss them :-( Here they are playing in the high school soccer game. Lucky for me they all happened to be on the soccer team together so I can visit them all at one time. Hopefully I make some more favorites soon.

Won't you be my neighbor

I made friends with another old lady neighbor today. She came over with a bottle of wine and a broken cork because she needed help removing it. It must suck to live alone when you are old and do not have the strength to open jars or bottles anymore.

Pink skies

I love when the sky is blue and pink. It reminds me of a poster i used to have in my room. I always thought mine was better than my brother's because his sky was only blue. I haven't seen that poster in years but i still remember what it said.
Worldly wise, accepts whats done, this woman from the valley, a most peaceful one.  :-)

Hi ho hi ho

This is what time I left work today. Everyone that says that teachers do not work nights, weekends, or summers is wrong. We do! We just don't get paid for them.

Halloween heist

This is the gazebo in my neighborhood. Today I witness two teenage girls stealing pumpkins from it in broad daylight. They were not very good at stealing. First off they left the doors open on their car. Then they tried to run from the gazebo to their car carrying giant pumpkins. They laughed so hard that I looked over. So did about 3 or 4 other people in the neighborhood out for walks. If they would have been a little quieter no one would have noticed the teenagers running away with pumpkins in broad daylight.

A real football player

Saturday October 15 2011
These are the grass stains I got on my pants today playing football. You may be asking why a grass stain is the most exciting thing to happen to me today. Well, they arent just any grass stains. They are the grass stains I got when I was tackled by a real live NFL player. Thats right! Today at flag football we got our butts kicked (as usual). But this team was extremely good. They were so nice though so we didnt care and we had fun anyway. Then when we got home Blayne googled them and found out that one of the guys on their team just got cut from the Broncos. So yes, I am sore today from being knocked over in flag football, but it was worth it to be able to say I played with a real football player.

A present for myself

This is the Chipotle dinner I treated myself to for making it through today. Yes... today was one of those days that required a present just for making it through.

College

I love it here! How can you not? Its so beautiful and fun. When I was a hs junior they told me that when you find the college thats right for you, you will just know. They were right. Ten years later im still here.

Corn maze

The weather was so nice today that we decided to go to a corn maze. It was so fun because it was really hard. After an hour of systematic wandering we decided to look at the map they gave us. Luckily we did because it was complicated and we may have been there all day.

Surprise

Saturday October 8 2011
We had a surprise party for Faiths mommy's birthday. I guess you know you are an adult when your birthday parties revolve around your kids... pictures of them, presents for them. She is getting so big and so cute though. Rose was very happy and super surprised. Success!

Some things never change

This is a picture of the outfit I wore out today. I had to make it the picture of the day because I had a minor freak out over it. Let me start by saying that I hate getting dressed up. I also hate going places where your outfit matters and I hate clothes shopping. So going out has always been a stressful process because I never feel I have the right clothes. I actually remember this being an issue of mine for years. I cried getting ready for the eighth grade dance because I couldn't handle getting dressed. Well 14 years later not much has changed. My friends invited me to PJs and it was a last minute sort of thing. They said they were dressing "cute" and I knew it would be crowded because it is Friday and the Phillies are on. I was at home wearing jeans with a peanut butter stains on them, a long sleeve t shirt, and sneakers with my hair up. My mom insisted that I wear her shoes and her shirt. She also wanted me to shower, do my hair, and borrow her perfume. That is when the freak out began and I debated just staying home to avoid having to get ready. I showered while she cleaned my pants and we compromised on a shirt. At that point I had had enough but she then chased me around the room spraying perfume on me. True story! Apparently she thought I was going to meet the man of my dreams at PJs. I didn't...

Rose colored reminders

These are the bracelets I made for me and my friend Tricia. They are rose colored to remind us of a coworker. We love her in a wwjd-if-she-can-do-it-so-can-we kind of way :-) Three weeks down!

On a positive note

I had a really rough tiring all around exhausting day. But the point of this blog is to realize the good things that happen in boring or bad days. So here is a picture of what I use as a positive reminder to myself during my stressful days.

Back to school night

This is a picture of my classroom without the students. I figured it was appropriate because today was Back to School Night. We had a really great turn out of parents... a lot more than I expected. I lead our group presentation because no one else wanted to talk. I'm getting pretty good at public speaking in my old age though. It used to make me very nervous but it doesn't anymore. I actually enjoy it once in a while. Who would have thought!?

My Genealogy

For fun recently, I have been researching my family history and family tree. I have finished my research for now and gathered all of the information I can find on the internet. Then the other day in Advisory, a student mentioned his family heritage. We got to talking and that gave me an idea. In advisory (where were learn about one another and general lessons) I am going to show the students an episode of Who Do You Think You Are. If you havent seen this show, I recommend it. I love it. It traces the family history of celebrities. Then I am going to play this video, my own little episode. After that the students will research and then make their own. I think it will be fun. Hopefully they will too. Until then I needed to post this here so that my parents can watch it and catch any mistakes or typos in it. Its for a school project but I want to have the information totally correct for myself to keep.

A muddy mess

We played football in about 3 inches of mud. The field was disgusting. Its been raining pretty much everyday so the ground cant absorb anymore. Because of that, the mud was literally deeper than our cleats. And it smelled. It was gross but fun.

A small world and a family resemblance

Saturday October 1 2011
Yesterday we went bowling to celebrate Kate's birthday. I got there and Katherine told me that Thomas was a few lanes over. Then Kate told me that Nora was also a few lanes over the other way. What are the odds? We were bowling at a place we dont normally go and then we run into so many people we know. My favorite part of the story though is not how small the world is. My favorite part is that Katherine has never met or seen Thomas before. She walked into the bowling alley, saw him (a stranger), and knew he was related to me. She said it was the family resemblance. She just knew.

Team party

Friday September 30 2011
This summer I joined a kickball team to meet new people. Every couple of weeks someone different from the team hosts a team party so we can hang out and see where our teammates live. Tonight was Rachels turn to host. Katherine brought a cookie cake that said "great season". I think that sums up our team because we are still hanging out with each other talking about a great season... and we never won.
