When I was a kid I hated reading. I just did it because my teachers told me I had to. In my old age though I've come to like it more and more. I usually read very light "chick lit" novels just to relax by the pool or beach because they are fun and you always know they are going to end happily ever after. My students are much luckier than I was though, because they have all of these programs were they can read whatever they want. This year a bunch of the girls were reading this book called the Lovely Bones. They suggested I read it but it seemed a little deep for me. Then a couple of the teachers were talking about the same book. I found it on the sale rack at the library so I decided to give it a shot. It's definitely not light reading (i wont read it before bed) but it does have me hooked. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Friends meets Big Fat Greek Wedding
I went to a wedding shower yesterday. Like all showers, it was boring. But it was a traditional Italian shower so a couple things stood out. First off, all the old ladies looked the same... with big poofy black hair. It was like Joey's family on Friends. All clones of one another. Then it was like being in My Big Fat Greek Wedding because not only did everyone look the same but they all had the same name. It was crazy. No exaggeration there had to be at least 10 Joanns there. Joan, Joann, Joanie, Aunt Joann, etc. But the best part of the stereotypical Italian shower was the dessert. Mmm. All of my favorites.

The olympics
I love the olympics! I love everything about them. Who doesn't enjoy a flashy show, a big parade, and young people accomplishing things the rest of us can only dream about. Plus it's the only time when the whole world is focused on one positive thing. Its the best time of the year. I wish I was in the olympics. I don't really have an extreme talent though so instead this is where me and my mom spent our opening ceremonies.

Small annoyances part 2
Something else that annoys me is that person in class that has an opinion about everything. You know the one I mean. The one who has to speak even if they are wrong. The lady in my class this time who does this sat at my table today. Not only are her opinions annoying but she chomped on a sandwich for the first half of class. When her sandwich was done she put her bare feet up on the table we all share. Finally she spent the rest of class braiding and braiding her hair. If you're gonna act like that in class your opinion should not count.
Dream interpretation
I had the oddest dream last night. I was running in NY in and out of dark smelly places. Some parts were underground but it wasn't crowded with people. I didn't know where I was or where I was going. Then eventually I found my cousins and they told me I ran a marathon. I stopped running because my cousin wanted me to get her more nachos from this stand. When I went in to get them for her the lady at the stand offered me a hotdog for running the marathon. The hotdog was on a fancy white plate. I wanted it but I couldn't take it because I was holding giant chunks of my skin. It was peeling off in chunks and I didn't want to lose it so i was holding long thick strands of it. How weird! I wonder what that dream means.

Small annoyances
Since its summer you would think I would have lots of interesting things to blog about... but I don't. So rather than being mia I will tell you about something that annoys me. People who aren't handicap who park in handicap spots. Just because you have the tags on your mirror does not give you the right to park in the spot if you can walk.

Cross stitch
It finally rained so I spent the day cross stitching and watching tv. I finished my craft for my friend's baby shower.
Field of dreams
Danielle's boyfriend plays baseball. I went with her to watch his game. The field was only about 7 or 8 miles away from my house but in an area I've never been to. The road was normal. Then the houses started getting farther and farther apart. Then the houses became farms. There were no more street lights and no cars. The farms had fields of corn and animals. Just when I was thinking this cannot possibly be NJ, all of a sudden giant lights pop up in the middle of the field in the distance. I followed the lights to the baseball field and found what I assume was most of this town there. I felt like I was in caught in Field of Dreams.

We're back
Whatever luck helped us win last week clearly ran out... we were mercy ruled today. Only 5 innings in and we were losing so bad they called the game. It was sad. We used the free time to hang out at the tavern though so in the end it was a fun evening.

Boom
I was in the parking garage today (and luckily no one was behind me). My flip flop caught on the step. I stubbed all my toes on that foot, skinned my knee, dropped by books, and landed literally right on my snack crushing it. It was quite graceful. Nothing like a grown adult falling up the steps.

OCD has its benefits
My mom came over today and we cleaned my entire house. And I don't mean just dusted... we really cleaned everything. It stinks like chemicals but it looks awesome in here.
Kickball
My kickball team won our first game this season. We never win! In fact, I'm kind of jinxed. No team I ever play on wins. Maybe this will be the season that breaks the jinx... or maybe we just got lucky. Either way, it's fun to win sometimes.
Crafty
Me and my mom tried another craft. Here is a picture of the bibs we made out of old t shirts.

Womens intuition
I had my first case of women's intuition last night. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, it was completely wrong. I had a dream about a bunch of my friends from different circles of my life. I woke up panicked about this one friend in particular from the dream. I felt like something was wrong even though I could not put my finger on what it was. I had no logical or rational explanation. Since I couldn't seem to shake the feeling this morning, I texted my friend just to see. Not only was he okay, he was better than okay. Two days before him and his wife had their first baby. Last night everyone was home and safe in his life. I am happy to report that my intuition had the story a little bit backwards this time. Horay for his happy ending!

Picture perfect
I wish the tcnj magazine people were walking around today. I felt like I should have been a photo in a magazine talking about college students. Just when you think tcnj I can't look any more like the ideal college, they go put random adirondack chairs all around. The weather finally broke... it was sunny, breezy, and in the eighty's. The perfect day to do your homework sitting outside.

Heat
It has been near 100 degrees for the past almost 2 weeks. No rain and no relief from the heat. Tonight it looked like it was so hot at the sky was on fire.
Game night
Kate and Katherine were talking about this board game that their boyfriends play. Apparently both boyfriends love it but neither of the girls have ever played. We had nothing to do so we decided to give it a shot. This is what it looks like. You would think they would at least try to make the box look interesting. It was all downhill from there. There were 1,000,000 pieces. Kate tried to read the directions to us but they were like a giant book. About 3 steps into the directions we were already confused and bored. We ended up playing cards.

Independence day
You expect a picture of fireworks or a picnic or something on the 4th of July. But here's a picture of my family getting hamburgers at a restaurant. We went there after helping my brother with some stuff at his new house. Don't worry though, we went to the pool in the afternoon and saw fireworks at night.

The wedding of the century
We have been calling my friends wedding an extravaganza. That was before I actually went to it. I was basing my prejudices on the shower, things I had heard about the reception hall, the amount of bridesmaids, and stuff like that. Is there anything bigger than an extravaganza? Because that's what we should have been calling it. It was amazing! For starters it was in historic Philadelphia. The cocktail hour had every type of food you could imagine. Then they let us into the room. It was unreal. We were in the center of a 10 story building with windows as a roof so you could see the sky at the top. There was a water fountain and personalized lighting. There were flowers everywhere, a chocolate fountain, and a Phillies ice sculpture. The food and the dancing never stopped. Even on our way out the parting gifts were cheesesteaks and philly pretzels. Everything was way beyond anything I could imagine for a wedding. For how classy it was though, it did not feel stuffy because the families were very welcoming. Thank goodness I listened to my mom and did my hair. The only thing that would have made it better was if I had a date. I can't summarize the evening in one picture so here are 2. One is the venue view looking straight up. The other is the happy bride and groom.
